Would like to see Mr. Markham's prize poems. Is happy to hear Virgil's splendid news. Says she knows Henry Chester Tracy who took his place during his absence. Her cousin, John Overholt, was telling about Mr. Markhams visit when he came to speak at the college.

Zona Gale was a prominent writer and political activist born in Portage, Wisconsin. Gale attended the University of Wisconsin and worked as a reporter in Milwaukee. Gale, a lifelong friend of Jane Addams, became involved in the fight for the women's vote and eventually went to work for the writer Edmund Clarence Stedman.
